The Serpentine Queen | Dance Project & Performance

This performance project is a deep study and homage to the early 2000s Tribal Fusion era, inspired by the work and aesthetic pioneered by Rachel Brice. It is not an attempt to replicate choreography or style, but rather to honour the movement philosophy, visual language, and performance quality that defined that foundational period.

Old school Tribal Fusion was rooted in precision, and internal intensity. The movement vocabulary emphasised muscular control, sustained phrasing, and serpentine quality that tapped into the feminine energy like no other. This project invites dancers to return to that era.
In this choreography, we explore old school Tribal Fusion movements and their nuances, going deeper into muscular precision, and sustained presence. Get ready to feel the magnetic essence of Tribal Fusion — Serpentine, hypnotic, and quietly powerful.

​Performance Opportunity

All Dance Project participants will perform Serpentine Queen live at Bhumika Hafla Show 2026 in Bratislava on 25.4.2026.
This is a formation-based stage piece created with attention to spacing, visual geometry, and collective intensity.

Masterclass 1: Aalam – To Speak Through Technique

​Technique gives a strong base for fusion belly dance and its expression. As dancers with liberty to fuse, we have a wide ground to play with technique and sometimes get lost in the whirlwind.

In this workshop we focus on how technique can be shaped both from a bird’s-eye perspective and in detailed layers. This understanding helps one communicate visually a story, music — or even silence — and build connection with the viewer without explicit expression.

To speak through technique, we will dissect it deeply into its layers — and that is exactly what this workshop offers.

​Masterclass 2: Astitva – The Indian Fusion Approach

​In this workshop, we focus on embodying mindful movement with intention.

Drawing inspiration from the nuances of the Indian classical dance form Odissi, we explore and integrate its subtleties into the aesthetics of Tribal Fusion Belly Dance.
​
By refining body language and intricate classical details, we create a seamless fusion that exudes grace and deepens expression.
The session culminates in a combination blending tradition and contemporary artistry.

​About Nivetha Shree

Fascinated by the arts as a child, Nivetha began studying Belly Dance 12 years ago, training under several renowned teachers across the world. During her training in Belly Dance and Yoga, she discovered and fell deeply in love with Tribal Fusion Belly Dance.

With certifications in DanceCraft – Key of Diamonds by Zoe Jakes and Krysalis – Invocation by Kami Liddle, as well as being a Level 2 Yoga practitioner certified by the Yoga Certification Board, Government of India, she has been exploring and building her style by mindfully fusing nuances from the diverse dance forms she is proficient in, while keeping Belly Dance as the foundation. She is also a certified FCBD® Teacher and takes pride in being the first certified and officially recognised FCBD® Sister Studio in India.

As a solo artist and the director of Saara – The Tribe, she has showcased her creative explorations on renowned dance platforms. Her teaching journey began in 2015, eventually inspiring her to establish Saara – The Bellydance Space, where her vision of a structured and supportive environment empowers beginner and intermediate dancers to grow confidently and explore self-expression.

Her holistic approach fosters a deep connection between body and mind, inviting her students to truly fall in love with the art of Belly Dance. In addition to her regular certified classes in Bangalore, she has conducted workshops and performed at various Belly Dance festivals nationwide. In recent years, she has brought her dance programs to Germany, the UK, and Australia, expanding her reach to the international Belly Dance community and sharing her artistry worldwide.
